Down in One

Down in One

Down in one, down in one, down in one

Have you what it takes to be a Downing Street one?

Let us party like it’s twenty-twenty

Taxpayers providing booze aplenty

No need for us, a secret drinking den

Just rap the door knocker of number ten

Outside, the deaf-mute Bobby has been tasked

To let you in, no questions asked

Pour yourself a big one, cheers, your good health

Tonight, the country has to run itself

Karaoke’s on, the craic is epic

Don’t spoil it now with talk of pandemic

When rumours rise round the booze we’ve swallowed

Just maintain that all the rules were followed

With absent conscience, lie with no contrition

And you’ll have what it takes to be a politician

Yes, good piece, graphically illustrates how humour is so linked to poetry, there are many reasons but the most obvious is here , in these words, both convey a serios point better! Thank you
