About
I was diagnosed with PD in 2017 at the age of 52. I first developed an interest in poetry following my diagnosis, partly to fill the void of being forced to give up my work as a veterinary surgeon. I feel very much a novice at poetry and most of my efforts are unapologetically simple.
Humour is my main coping mechanism and I try to incorporate it into my writing.
Having grown up in Ireland, I went to Edinburgh Uni and Scotland has been my home ever since. I now live in Fife with my wonderful wife Dawn and Bridie our Boxer.

The Hellish Days of Christmas
On a hellish day at Christmas my Parkinson’s gave to me, health, some shortcomings, heaven’s snipers sniping, tension stops me sleeping, nothing life enhancing, hate it, jaded, wilting, senses gone or dimming, sickness not allaying, synuclein; more scrawling words, free charity pens, truth hurts, its dross ah Parkinson’s apathy!

Lock and Key
Lock and Key In this tangled nest of neurons, the mental maze of messengers, that makes you you and me me; among the labyrinth of life and learning, lightless corridors lead to a dark room, kept under lock and key. The hidden store of anxiety and fear, guilt and despair kept wrapped in the recesses of our minds; The lock keeper invites you in to look, then wryly smiling, he turns the key, and shuts the door behind.
