Time Will Tell

Writer's picture: Alice CarrollAlice Carroll

January Challenge – Time

When having writer’s block, always go to nursery rhymes. It is like playing scales on a piano. It loosens something in the brain. I will not be able to attend Open Mic. So, you all can give your suggestions to improve this poem in the comments section. I wanted two opposite generations to agree digital is better. Unfortunately, the meter fell flat.

TIME WILL TELL

A child learns to tell time

Oh, Mommy dear, I sadly fear

I failed telling time in school this year.

The teacher showed us how to tell time

on an old clock that always runs 10 minutes behind.

“Why can’t we go digital?” I whined.

A Parkie tests for decline in cognition

Oh, daughter dear, I sadly fear

I failed my cognition test.

I missed the section about time.

And didn’t do well on the rest.

I was to draw a clock face with the hands set at two

My mind had writer’s block.

Instead, a smiley face I drew.

“Why can’t we just use a digital clock?”

Replying to

I would be honored if you posted this poem. I just happened to see your request. I changed my email and don't have comments forwarded to me. An administrator of this site gave me some feedback to improve the wording. I made edits and was wondering how to post the new and improved poems. Any suggestions?

A clever piece and no mistake. I love how this reads Alice, as Ali says, quirky and different and that gets my vote every time. Than you Alice
