something

Updated: Jul 7

the inspiration for this was actually the elastic band

she could have sworn it was here -

somewhere

buried in the drawer of broken biros,

blackened rubbers, foreign coins that have no value,

keys to unlock things that may forever remain locked

and the occasional elastic band

now stiff and brittle with age -

which is exactly how she felt -

any attempt to stretch her body, (or her mind for that matter)

would result in breakage,

a crumbling of her into tiny pieces

that would fall into the drawer

only to be dispersed amongst the detritus -

some swept into the back,

some into the corners

where she would soon be forgotten

along with the rest of the drawers contents -

except she had not forgotten

she was sure it was here -

somewhere,

and she would find it

if only she could just remember

what it was she was looking for, in the first place

Excellent. With a proper boom boom ending. Well done

Another great piece Alison. Humorous, tragic, poignant- I won't look at an elastic band the same again.

Been there, got that drawer. I'll never look at a perished rubber band in the same way again.
