ANGER TANGLE

Writer: Jim ReadJim Read

I’m in an anger tangle

A temper dilemma

Furiously confused

An aged rager

On a short fuse

Wondering

If it’s best to let it out

or keep it in

Is anger contagious

Like an emotional virus

Spread by tiny particles of bile?

Should I count to ten

Breathe slowly out and in

Imagine floating down a stream?

That is my dilemma.

Am I a let it all outer

Or a keep it all inner?

I could ‘shout, shout

Let it all out’

But at who, when and what about?

When the cause of my fury is a helpline that’s busy

A politician on the telly

Or my own stupidity.

Or keep calm and carry on

But can calmful be harmful?

Carrying on be wrong?

If kept inside does anger fester

Make you bitter

Liable to hate-speak on twitter.

Anger is a natural emotion

To feel it part of being human

It gives us courage to do what we believe in

But if it hangs around it stinks

Or we dump it on the innocent

So here’s my idea for safely absorbing surplus anger

A punchbag filled with lavender

Pummel and swoon.

Pummel and swoon

Pummel and swoon

I enjoyed this. Pummel and swoon - sounds like a pair of lawyers

Well written thought provoking piece. Letting your anger out on paper could be the answer, if you haven’t got a lavender filled punchbag .
