Like all New Years, 2025 heralds the beginning of many things and one of these is our new Poetry Club which will take place on the last Tuesday in the month in place of the monthly Open Mic
Poetry Club will be a Members Only event where we can share poetry, discuss poetry, and help each other to improve our own poetry with constructive feedback from friends. The format will vary from month to month and will include some Open Mic sessions and hopefully some guests too. If you would like to join the conversation, or even just to listen then book your place now.
We also aim to arrange some more social events and, of course, your poetry will continue to be shared with the wider public when you post it on the Wall.
January 28th – Poetry Club 7 pm – 8.30pm GMT
This January our Monthly Challenge is to write something inspired by the word Beginnings and that seems perfect as the topic for our first meeting. Famous poems, finished poems and those that still need polishing. We’ll discuss a selection and explore what we like and try to work out why.
If you haven’t tried the Challenge yet there’s plenty of time. What does the word Beginnings spark in your mind? It could be the beginning of the world, of a day, of a football match. How about the starter for a meal, the first day of treatment , the beginning of the end?
Here are some great examples:
Rain by Don Paterson
First Day at School by Roger McGough
Born Yesterday by Philip Larkin
Hope to see you there, you can book your place here
