Poetry News September 25

ree

Hello Again, Poetry Lovers,

Our summer Open Mic events were great fun. It's such a boost to spend time together, sharing our love of poetry and our lives with Parkinson's.

Remember, this month we revert to Poetry Club on Monday 29th of September. Unlike the open mic, this is a Members Only event where we spend a bit more time dissecting the poems, sharing ideas on writing and hopefully learning a bit from each other. Plus, of course, the usual chat and nonsense. you can book your place here

Some members only joined us this year so we thought it might be helpful to share a few tips on how to get the most out of your membership.

  1. Trust your Art - The poetry you write is as good as anybody else’s because it comes from you. So judge it yourself and post your best work on The Wall. Note: No more than one or two a week please. Only members can comment on the poems on The Wall and you will always find them supportive, kind, and uncritical. (See Tip 3)

  2. Add a Picture - But please make sure it is copyright free. The best thing is to create your own by drawing or using AI

  3. Like and Comment - Whenever you visit the wall, especially if you are posting, please take a minute of your time to post a positive comment on somebody else's poem. They will really appreciate it just like you do.

  4. Look Around - Take some time to look around the other pages on the site. Over the years we've been together as a group, Members have contributed a wealth of resources to inspire and inform. They are there for you to use.

  5. Read and Write - There are over 1500 poems on our site all written by our members, we have books for sale in The Library, and there's a shelf in your local second-hand book shop with lots more great poetry written by others. Reading poetry is a great source of inspiration and it's good for the brain, too.

  6. Take Part - Every month our Nige posts some kind of prompt, picture or poetic challenge to exercise our poetic muscles. It is wonderful to see the different ways people respond and it's a fun thing to do. (See Tip 7)

  7. Have fun - You are part of a wonderful community of Poets with Parkinson’s and whatever health challenge is top of your list right now, poetry and laughter are both great medicine

Peace and Love

The Team from The Wall
