FREE-D-O-M

FREE- D-O-M

D - O - M

three small letters that came at a cost;

war,

after war,

after war,

in our past.

One of them ends in a nuclear blast,

Wear a poppy each year - ‘lest we forget’ - and yet…

we are still fighting in far distant lands

so it doesn’t seem real – the blood on our hands.

D - O - M

three small letters that came at a cost;

fueled by subjugation,

slavery,

then segregation,

But the man with the dream, which he shared with his nation

wound up dead – a bullet to the head -

in the land of the free – where he made the call,

it was really quite simple – equality for all.

D - O - M

three small letters that came at a cost;

an explosion

on a plane,

in a car,

on a bus

and it rained metal and concrete...

and enough patriotism to fuel a battle fought far away, in a desert of dirt.

But it didn’t end there, now all humanity hurt.

D - O - M

three small letters that came at a cost;

a mother,

a father,

a grandparent lost –

to a disease, allowed to run rife,

by a lack of respect for those older in life...

who needed our care but were left unaware

in a place we called ‘home’ – but they were alone.

D - O - M

three small letters that come at a cost;

a mortgage - bills,

and council tax,

a fifty hour week,

and a credit card maxed,

no rest for us - thrown under the bus...

by Tory MPs who lived without stress, of feeding a family – they clapped our NHS -

to keep their seat warm while the rest of us mourned.

F - R - E - E.

four small letters that allow us to;

wear what we want,

to speak without fear,

to love whom we like

to demonstrate – strike

to be whom-ever we want to be,

four little letters that we take for granted F - R - E - E

FREE - implies something for nothing until you add D-O-M.
