An ordinary day
Down Tampa Bay
That’s what I miss
As I face the abyss
A friend dropping by
Just to say hi
A trip to the store
With the creaky old door
I try not to cry
Only God knows why..
I was spared this day
Down Tampa Bay
Give thanks this day
Down Tampa Bay
For those who Cared
To those who shared..
Again and again
In Hurricane Helene.
Risked life and limb
When hopes were thin
To save my life
My ordinary life
That special day
Down Tampa Bay
I’ll return some day
To Tampa Bay
My life may seem messed
But I am clearly blessed
Many things may have gone
But my memories are strong
I have extraordinary stories
Life long inventories
Desperate to be shared
Thank God I was spared
That precious day
Down Tampa Bay

Written for the 93 year old mother of. My Yoga Teacher, who had to be rescued by boat from her home in Tampa, as it disappeared under 6 feet of water . She lost everything.

Excellent poem. Thanks for sharing. I hope the yoga teacher's mom reads the poem daily to help her to be resilient.
Heartbreaking, must have been terrifying , but at least she survived , a very moving piece.
