About the event
Our poetry events are open to anybody touched by Parkinson’s that writes, reads or loves poetry. You will have the opportunity to share your poetry, join in with the conversation or you can just listen. Readings not videos please. If you need someone to read your poetry for you please let us know and we can help.
Hosted by Martin Pickard, this event is held in English. If your poetry is not in English, we love to hear the beauty of your native language but it would help if you could share your poem in advance to avoid the need for live translation or you can send it to me and I will post it for you with a Google translation. In fact we ask all contributors to submit their work in advance so they can be shared onscreen too.
The standard format of our event is that everyone who wants to read takes a turn to read one poem each. We choose who goes next in a random order to keep it exciting 😊 Once everyone has had the opportunity to share one poem, we go around again for anyone who has a second. The event will last no longer than 90 minutes. Sometimes we just stop and chat for a bit. It’s a friendly, supportive atmosphere. Rest assured that anyone who tries to change that will be disconnected.
Our events attract some published poets but most of us are recent converts to the art. The majority are from the UK but we also have regulars from the USA, Canada, Mexico, Germany and all corners of the world.
Please note that these events are recorded and we may use clips from the recording in our promotion and advocacy work; by attending you are indicating your acceptance of this.
